I basically have five seconds to do whatever I want in the GUI, but after those five or so it locks up, and then closes. I have tried manually forcing an update and repair using the maintenance tool, and the issue persists.

It's a problem with EA 3784 (as of writing this comment, the latest) causing crashing trying to launch and affects all games. Apparently they're working on a fix and it shouldn't take more than a couple hours. In the meantime, you can revert to EA 3783 or use the mainline build.
