There are no NPC's anymore in vanilla, HOWEVER, there is a mod you can get that adds NPCs to the game. Multiplayer is available but it's outdated in an old build. THe latest build should recieve MP by the end of the year I've heard. Superb survivors adds npcs. Not perfect but it'll definitely scratch that itch.You will have to click on the survivors and tell them what work they have to do. To collect wood, farming, base area, stack corpses, and few other jobs you need to designate an area for that. The superb survivor mod has a lot of bugs. Survivors usually die of hunger and thirst, so turn them off in the setting.
